Double Olympics Champion Christian Taylor Out Of Olympics With Injury As Gardiner Also Injured

The double Olympics triple jump gold medalist and four times world champion, American Christian Taylor has injured his achilles tendon. The 31-year-old Fayetteville Georgia born athlete got his right achilles ruptured on Wednesday at Ostrava Golden Spike and went for surgery the following day.

Later on Thursday, Taylor’s longtime coach Rana Reider told Reuters the surgery “went well” but that he doesn’t expect Taylor to be back this year.

“It was his right achilles and a complete rupture. We got him to a surgeon in Germany and got it repaired this morning,” Reider said. “The surgery went well and they were able to repair it. It was a clean break and a clean surgery.

“He was pretty happy with it (the way the surgery went).”

Taylor has been training full-time before this latest setback at the British Athletics’ national performance center in Loughborough, with his Austrian hurdler Beate Schrott.

It’s now seems the Olympics Champion in 2012 and 2016 will not be able to defend his title in Tokyo Olympics.

Another favourite in the 400m and reigning World Champion, Steven Gardiner was also injured on Tuesday at the USATF meet in Texas after pulling up 50m to the tape. The extent of his injury is not yet known.
